Hello from the Inventor “COLIN ALBERTYN”

How to Set Up your smartCRUTCH™

Fibrodysplasia Ossificans and smartCRUTCH™

FOP (Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva)

is an ultra-rare disease that turns muscle into bone, obstructing movement and hindering lives:

The SmartCRUTCH™ is a fully adjustable forearm crutch that may better meet the comfort and mobility needs of someone with FOP who still wishes to walk shorter distances but needs balance support. The SmartCRUTCH™ patented design distributes your body weight over your forearms, releasing pressure from your hands, wrists and shoulders. The ability to change the length and angle of the forearm platform allows for variation and customization which makes them more likely to accomodate different arm positions that may be present with FOP compared to standard non-adjustable forearm crutches. This can help with a safer and more efficient experience when walking and reduce fatigue. The hand grips are offset 7° to ensure stability and comfort and they are specifically designed as left and right grips. The hourglass-shaped foot maximizes surface contact with the floor for better stability.

How to Use SmartCRUTCH on the Stairs

Smart Crutch on the stairs with and without a handrail

We’ve had viewers ask about how to use the Smart Crutch on the stairs with and without a handrail. In this video Cindy demonstrates how to go up and down the stairs with Smart Crutches with and without a handrail.

Using smart crutches on stairs requires balance and coordination. Practice with a caregiver is essential. Keep elbows tucked and stay upright to avoid strain. When descending, use one crutch or both, focusing on slow movements. For ascending, maintain the same posture and use a rail if available. Safety is crucial throughout the process.
